A function to mark the 51st Republic Day of Maldives was held on Thursday. The function held in the premises of Maldivian Educational and Cultural Centre (MECC) was attended by the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka.
The function named as the “Jumhooree Show 2019” was a variety show that showcased spectacular talents of the Maldivian students attending the classes in MECC and Youth Centre. The Futsal ground of MECC was transformed into a musical extravaganza with a special music band comprising prominent veteran musicians resident in Colombo. Performance by the one of the most popular and extraordinary musician/singer Mr. Abdul Hannan Moosa Didi enhanced and uplifted the event. On behalf of all the Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka, Ambassador Omar presented a plaque to Mr. Hannan to appreciate his staunch services to the entertainment industry for more than 40 years. Other members of the band includes the Guitarists Hassan Rauf, Naagyth, Muad, Simon, Shuaib, Fazeel, Safoora and Shani.
In addition to the music, traditional Boduberu, dances and drama were presented by the students and Youth Centre members. A special segment to choose Mr. Sosun Villa, Miss Sosun Villa and Mrs. Sosun Villa was also held among the community members attended the function.
The function was attended by a large number of Maldivians living in Sri Lanka.
