High Commissioner Zahiya Zareer inaugurates workshop to sensitize MECC teachers to the new Education curriculum

24 August 2016, Colombo High Commissioner Her Excellency Zahiya Zareer inaugurated the workshop to sensitize teachers working at the Maldives Education and Cultural Centre to the new Education curriculum. During the inauguration ceremony held this morning at MECC, High Commissioner Zahiya stated the importance of teachers familiarizing with the new curriculum and expressed hope that by the end of the workshop all teachers will be well versed with the new curriculum. Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim launches High Commissions new website

17 August 2016, Colombo Foreign Minister His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim has today launched the new website of the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka. During the ceremony held at the High Commission this morning,  High Commissioner Zahiya Zareer expressed her appreciation to the Minister for launching the website and stated that the new website which is based on simplicity and ease of use will be useful for the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka. President Yameen Ratifies Protection of Reputation and Freedom of Expression Bill

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has today ratified the ‘Protection of Reputation and Freedom of Expression’ bill, which was passed by the Parliament on 9th August 2016.
Protection of Reputation and Freedom of Expression Act aims at preventing malicious defamation and protecting the reputation of individuals. The Maldives Constitution of 2008 sets out an expanded Bill of Rights, including freedom of expression (article 27) and a right to reputation and good name (article 33), and freedom of media (article 28). At the same time, the Constitution also recognises in Article 16, on the need to regulate, by a legislation of the Parliament, on how the rights can be exercised. Flag hoisting ceremony held at the High Commission to celebrate the 51st Anniversary of Independence of the Maldives

During the ceremony held this morning at the Maldives High Commission, the flag was hoisted by High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka Her Excellency Ms. Zahiya Zareer.  After the flag hoisting, the national anthem of Maldives was played. 25 July 2016, Colombo High Commissioner Her Excellency Zahiya Zareer attended the events held at Maldives Education and Cultural Centre to mark the joyous occasion of the 51st anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Maldives. MECC organized these events on Monday, 25 July 2016. The event consists of cultural dances, and other performances from Maldivian students studying in Sri Lanka and other items performed by staff at MECC.
