The official reception to mark the occasion of the 54th Anniversary of Independence of the Maldives was held in the Embassy .
The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Hon. Chandrani Bandara, Minister of Women, Child Affairs and Dry Zone Development of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The reception was attended by Ambassadors accredited to the Maldives, diplomatic communities, Ministers and senior dignitaries of Government of Sri Lanka, representatives of international organisations and members of the business community in Sri Lanka.
During the reception, Ambassador Omar delivered his welcome remarks in which Ambassador highlighted on the close and friendly relationship between the people of Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Harsha de Silva, Minister of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution was also in attendance. Sri Lanka Foreign Secretary His Excellency Ravinatha Aryasinha. State Minister for Foreign Affairs His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel and State Minister at the President’s Office Sabra Noordeen attended the reception as special guests.
