On the Occasion of the 55th Anniversary of Independence Day of the Republic of Maldives a Flag hoisting ceremony was held at the High Commission of Maldives today Sunday, 26 July 2020 at 0900 am. During the ceremony held at the Maldives High Commission, the flag was hoisted by His Excellency Omar Abdul Razzak, High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka. After the flag hoisting, the national anthem of Maldives was played. High Commissioner Omar also addressed the gathering during the ceremony.

During High Commissioner Speech, High Commissioner conveyed greetings and good wishes to all Maldivian residing in Sri Lanka on the occasion of Independence Day. High Commissioner also conveyed greetings to President of Maldives His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady and Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and all Maldivians on the happy occasion. High Commissioner also expressed his gratitude to all Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka for their patience during the difficult and challenging time in Sri Lanka due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

As today also marks the 55th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, High Commissioner conveyed greetings and good wishes on the occasion to the President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, and Minister of Foreign Relations, Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena. High Commissioner furthermore expressed his appreciation for the close cooperation Sri Lankan government and people have always maintained with the Maldives.
The ceremony was attended by staff at the High Commission of Maldives and staff at Maldives Educational and Cultural Centre and their families.
